The LG Optimus Black was released in the second quarter of 2011. It has received the name “B” and is also occasionally referred to as LG Optimus P970 Schwarz. It is known for the creation of the G key which will be explained later in the article.
The Black is actually an interesting name for a phone that is available in so many colours. You can get this device in black, pink, silver, white and brown. The phone is 112mm in height, 64mm in width and 9.2mm in thickness. It weighs approximately 109 grams which is lighter than most smart phones that average at 117 grams. The phone is thin and light so it is easier to carry in your pocket. The back also has mild ridges so it will not slip out of your hand easily.
There are not many exterior buttons on the Black other than the front home keys, which increase its attractiveness. The intriguing button on this device is the G key. The G Key, or Gesture Key, allows the user to conveniently switch through multiple home screens. This device is the first to create such a key and is highly acclaimed for it.
The screen is a 4”IPS Nova display. It has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and is known for having one of the clearest display screens to date. The screen is made of Gorilla Glass which is scratch and smudge resistant. The Black is built so there is no gap between the actual screen and the glass covering it. Reviewers claim that this is why the Optimus Black has such clarity. The screen has a sensitive auto-brightness which is great for saving battery life. The image on the Black is not distorted by the sun and has large viewing angles. The large viewing angles are appealing for anyone who enjoys watching videos on their phones.
The LG Optimus Black has a 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor, a PowerVR SGX530 GPU and TI OMAP 3630 chipset in terms of CPU. It comes with FroYo as an operating system; FroYo is an Android OS version 2.2 which is not the latest operating system that Android has released. After many debates, LG decided to make the Optimus Black upgradeable to Android 2.3. Gingerbread.
The camera on the Black is 5MP. It is inverted in to the back of the camera in order to avoid scratches to the lens. The camera has effects such as geo-tagging and face and smile detection. It also has the ability to take 720p video, which is considered high definition. There is a front-facing VGA camera which is 2MP. A 2MP front-facing camera is a quality that is above average. Most smart phones have front-facing cameras between 0.3-1.3 megapixels.
The battery life of the LG Optimus black is also above average. Reviewers claim that you could get 12 hours of avid use out of its 1500mAH battery. LG promises at least 6 hours of talk time, so for a review to get 12 hours is quite significant.
The HTC Sensation 4G is known for its durable structure that matches the quality of HTC’s software within. HTC obviously remembered their clumsier customers as they constructed a durable phone lined with aluminum so that it will not easily break if dropped. The chances of ruining the hardware within the phone are greatly reduced. The device is one of the top Android phones that HTC has produced.
The Sensation is 126.1 mm in height, 65.4 mm in width, and is 11.3 mm thick which is thicker than the average smart phone. It weighs approximately 148 grams which is probably due to the extra thickness and the aluminum. The device is completely black and has a chic design on the back where HTC logo is. The only other thing on the rear of the phone is the camera which fits neatly towards the top in the left corner. On the front of the phone there are 4 different touch buttons across the bottom.
The screen is a 4.3” LCD qCD display. The resolution is high quality at 540 x 960, which is a great resolution than some phones which are designed for gaming. In other words, the resolution is impeccable for a phone. The screen is made up of Gorilla glass, which is known to be smudge and scratch resistant.
The phone has a multi-touch touch screen. The user can type more efficiently with this device because the phone will register more than one key at the same time, rather than skipping letters. The device also has a proximity sensor for auto turn-off. What happens is that the phone will go to standby if it is left alone. The Sensations proximity sensor is a great battery saving feature.
The HTC Sensation 4G has a 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM 8260 Snapdragon processor. It is also equipped with Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) as an operating system. Furthermore, HTC has added its own software known as Sense 3.0. HTC Sense has multiple different capabilities. It is security software because users can retrieve their files and phone calls from the HTC sense website if they have lost their phone. The sense also jazzes up the appearance of the locked home screen. The software also offers multiple multimedia features like photo editing and HTC watch.
This device has an 8MP camera that has auto-focus and an LED flash. Some of the features on the camera are geo-tagging, touch-focus, face detection, and image stabilization. Image stabilization is an important feature to have on a mobile camera. Not everyone has the steadiest hand, and image stabilization limits the effects from jittery hands. The camera has the capability to capture 1080p video which is considered high definition. The phone also has a front-facing VGA camera that is 0.3 MP. The front- facing camera can be used for general photo taking, but most use it for video chat.
The HTC sensation comes with 1520mAH battery which is a good quality rechargeable lithium-ion battery. HTC promises above average battery life with 8.25 hours of talk time.
