The Samsung Captivate is actually what a lot of people refer to as the original Samsung Galaxy S. It is sometimes also referred to as the Samsung SGH-I897It is known for being a great pocket device because it is thin, light and won’t weigh you down.
The phone is completely black. It has a metallic better cover and the front is covered with Gorilla glass. Like most Samsung phones, this device I simple in its lay out. The device is 4.78 inches in length, 2.50 inches wide and 0.39 inches thick. It weighs approximately 128 grams.
On the front there is the huge, clear screen. Underneath the screen are four capacitive buttons. These buttons are essential standard buttons that you find on the front of most smart phones. The buttons are for the menu, home screen, to go back, and to activate the search bar. The Samsung symbol is the only other thing on the front, unless your phone service puts their emblem on it like at&t did in the photo above. On the right side of the phone there is a toggle switch that turns the volume up or down. Something Samsung has started to do it place the power/lock key on the side of the phone. It’s a bit counter intuitive at first, but after a while you would probably begin to wonder why all phones did not have their power switch on the side. On the back of the phone there is the camera, the loudspeaker and the Galaxy S symbol.
The device has a 4 inch Super AMOLED touch screen. AMOLED touch screens are high quality screens. They only use pixels in the case that content needs to be displayed. They monitor this through electronic currents. Furthermore, the content displayed is generally detailed and vibrant. The high resolution display (480 x 800 p) is a capacitive touch screen. Capacitive touch screens tend to be much more responsive so you do not need to tap millions of times before the screen responds. It is also a multi-touch display screen that facilitates texting, gaming, and anything else that involves quick touching of the screen. The display also has a light sensor as well as a proximity sensor to help save the battery from draining.
The phone comes equipped with a 1 GHz single core, Cortex A8, Hummingbird processor. Furthermore, it has Android 2.2 FroYo as an operating system. It has amazing storage at 16384 MB. The device also has a microSD port that can handle up to 32 GB.
The camera on this phone is 5 megapixels. Is has some great features and scene modes such as: smile detection, auto-focus, multi-shot, panorama, a self-timer and numerous other effects. The camera can also take a 720p HD video.
The Samsung Captivate is installed with a 1500 mAh battery. Tests have shown that the average talk time for this device is approximately 6 hours, which is slightly below average. That said, the user would get more out of it with general use. Tests have also shown that the phone can withstand 300 hours of stand-by time.
The LG Thrive is known for many things. First and foremost it was pegged as the first pre-paid smart phone ever, which was a huge deal for everyone that does not like to commit to full contracts. Secondly it’s known for its large, impeccable screen. Some people have even went so far as to compare it to the iPod touch. It is sometimes referred to as the LG Phoenix as well as the LG P506.
It comes in a gray/silver colour. It has a candy bar form, which just means that it does not have a slide out keyboard. It is completely touchscreen except for the four blue tinted buttons on the front. The buttons on the front are the basic home, search, back and menu buttons that are generally found on the face of smart phones. It is 4.47 inches in height or length, 2.32 inches in width and 0.53 inches thick. The phone weighs approximately 4.58 ounces.
The screen size is 3.2 inches and is a capacitive LCD screen. The resolution of this device is 320 x 480 pixels which is a great resolution for a smart phone. The screen tends to be vibrant and bright making this device known for its impeccable screen. The phone also has a multi-touch and proximity sensor. Multi-touch is basically what is sounds like. It allows the user to effectively touch more than one button at a time. It is great for people who test really quickly. The proximity sensor is a battery saving tool. A proximity sensor is usually combined with an auto-turn off function. If the proximity sensor does not sense anyone in the vicinity it will automatically put itself in standby mode. This setting can be turned off, but it is known to save battery life.
The LG thrive is equipped with a 600 MHz processor. Furthermore, it has Android 2.2 FroYo for an operating system. Like most smart phones, this phone is upgradeable to the most recent version of Android OS (Gingerbread). The device also features Bluetooth v2.1, as well as an accelerometer and a built in GPS antenna. It has a decent amount of storage as well. In addition to the 150 MB of built in storage, the phone can also handle a 32 GB microSD card.
The phone has a 3.2 megapixel camera. The resolution is not top quality, so if you are looking for a built in digital camera this is not the phone for you. However, most people do not buy their phones in order to take professional photos. Even an 8MP digital camera would not be deemed professional. Furthermore a 3.2 megapixel camera can still take quality photos. There is no additional front-facing camera, but the rear camera can take videos. It also is equipped with auto-focus and digital zoom.
The LG thrive has a 1500mAH rechargeable lithium ion battery. Reviewers claim that the user can get almost 8 hours of talk time out of this device, which is above average. Furthermore, it reached 480 hours of standby time.
Today we are going to look at two of the most popular android smart phones of last year - The Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC Sensation. We are looking at previous years popular phones because that is one of the best ways for you to get hold of an excellent phone at less than premium price and also that is unlocked.
Both Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC Sensation carry dual core processors running at 1.2 GHz. Sensation has a resolution of 540 by 960 and has dual LED flash while GS2 has a resolution of 480 by 800 and has only one LED. GS2 has 1GB of RAM while HTC Sensation has slightly less RAM of only 768 MB. Galaxy S2 comes in two models. One is having 16GB of internal storage and the other has 32GB. Sensation comes with only 1GB of user usable internal memory but has an external card slot and supports up to 32GB of memory.
In the front, HTC Sensation shows off Super LCD display and a secondary camera of 1.2 mega pixel while Galaxy s 2 bosses around with Super Amoled display and a 2 mega pixel camera. The display of Samsung is far more superior than the one which HTC Sensation holds. As primary cameras both the Samsung and HTC have an eight mega pixel shooter. The picture quality are of somewhat same quality and differ slightly.
HTC Sensation comes with a 1520 mAh battery which gives around 350 hours of standby time and 8 hours and 20 minutes of talk time. On the other hand the Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with a 1650 mAh battery which gives 18 hours and 20 minutes of talk time and 710 hours of standby time on 2G network. Sensation is also a little heavier than Samsung Galaxy S2 weighing in at 148 grams as compared to 116 grams of Samsung Galaxy S2.
HTC Sensation runs the latest version of HTC Sense which is 3.0 and Samsung GS2 runs Touchwiz 4.0. HTC Sense is somewhat more polished and easier to use while touchwiz sometimes feel laggy and not much attractive. Sensation has the HTC HUB and HTC movie on which you can download eBooks and movies and watch them on the go.
The downside of both the devices is that the Samsung Galaxy S 2 seems to heat up since it is so thin and the dual core processor it is using creates too much heat. It is not to be taken as hardware fault but as a design fault. Although it is fine at the moment but in the longer run the heat up problem might create problems in other parts of the phone such as the screen or speaker or camera.
HTC Sensation is also not injury free and initial reports and countless videos on the internet uploaded by people having problems have shown that the software of the HTC Sensation has some bug which makes the phone unusable while its charging. The phone also tends to lose touch sensitivity after a week of use which is not the hardware issue since the screen remains fine so people are blaming it on the immaturity of HTC Sense 3.0. hopefully it will be fixed in future updates.
Since no phone is injury free and the technology is advancing day by day thus both the phones share the best spot as one phone is better in one category and the other is better in an equally important category.

The screen on the LG thrill is a 4.3 inch TFT display screen. It is a capacitive screen that is more receptive than a non-capacitive, resistive screen. It has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, which is above average quality for a smart phone. It is a multi-touch screen and it has a light sensor and proximity sensor. What makes the screen more desirable than the average phone is that this screen has the ability to be 3D. The user does not need glasses to see the 3D effects. The effects are not like you would see in the movies either. Instead of things popping out at you, the screen appears as though you can look in to it. The great thing about the device is that you have the option to turn the 3D screen off when you are not really using it.

The battery life of the LG Thrive is a little above average. It is equipped with a 1500 mAh battery and can withstand up to 7 hours and 30 minutes of talk time.
Nokia has always produced great feature phones and the Nokia X3 – 02 is of no exception. This phone is also referred to the Nokia X3 Touch and type. It has received this name because you can touch the screen to open applications, but the 12-keyed keyboard is what you type on.
This phone is known to come in a multitude of unique colors. It comes in white silver, dark metal (black), petrol blue, pink and lilac. The phone has a chic metallic shine to it. It is 106.2 mm in length, 48.4 mm in width and 9.6 mm thin. It weighs about 77 grams which is way below the average phone that weighs approximately 117 grams. However, this device is perfect for carrying around. With its low weight and thickness, you would not even remember it in your pocket. The front has the screen as well as the keyboard. It is equipped with 12 numeric, symbol, and letter buttons. Above the keyboard are two quick launch buttons and the call send and end buttons. The quick launch buttons are for email and the music player. On the right of the device is the volume rocker and lock switch. The top of the phone has a microUSB charging output, a 2 mm charging port and 3.5 mm earphone/headset jack. There is also a microSD slot, but it can only be accessed under the battery cover.
The front screen of the Nokia X3-02 is a 2.4 inch QVGA resistive touch screen. The screen has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. It also has a proximity sensor. The proximity sensor senses when the phone is in use because it will sense how close things are around it. If it is left on its own, the screen will automatically turn off on its own. It is a great power-saving tool.
The phone is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera which is high quality for a feature phone. The phone can take photos that have a resolution of 2592 x 1944, which is great quality for a feature phone. The camera is also able to capture videos. It can capture a video with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. Regardless of the fact that there is not auto-focus, Nokia has equipped their phone with an Extended Depth of Field (EDoF) lens. The EDoF lens makes it so the camera can focus perfectly on anything that is about two feet away. Generally phones are used for portraits, so the camera is actually quite high quality.
In terms of storage, this device has 50MB of internal, usable storage. A microSD card is not supplied; however, the phone can take up to 32 GB, which is quite a bit of storage for this device.
The device has an 860mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Reviewers have claimed that the phone can handle 5 – 6 hours of talk time and 432 hours of standby time. Considering the poor quality of the battery, the talk time is good, but is below average. That said, with general use, the user could probably get more than 5 hours.
This phone may look like it is fighting above its weight with the bad boys but it actually is a mid range phone and that is exactly how it was intended by Samsung to bring the android war into mid range cell phones and get the first market capture there.
The Ace has Android Froyo and a relatively powerful 800MHZ processor.
The Ace is an averaged sized phone for an android smart phone and weighs a relatively heavy 113 grams. But the edges are curved which give the phone a better grip and the build quality of the phone is really good and still it is compact and pocket friendly and easily can be put into some space. The design of this phone is very similar to that of the iPhone.
The phone has an average screen and the results with the colors and their brightness and contrast is ok but generally the colors are dull and the screen is not the friendly under the sunlight while viewing at angles also leave much to be desired. The good thing is that the touch screen is sensitive and responsive but it should have been made slightly more sensitive.
The back of the phone houses the 5MP camera which has LED flash but the lens of the camera is totally uncovered and can be easily scratched. The battery for the device is very impressive and offers up to 11 hours in talk time which is very good for an android phone know for eating battery power.
The Ace has Froyo and touch wiz user interface which is visually pleasant and allows you to set widgets and applications on the interface to your liking so you can use them without having to navigate in to menus.
The phonebook of the Ace is excellent ad very easy to manage and navigate through. The different tabs allow you to scroll through the list and also see relevant detail upon clicking but more importantly the phonebook is the one stop for all the contacts and its quick contact feature is also a plus for the Ace.
The telephony of the phone is very good and something other phones should look up to in the same bracket. The sound quality and reception was very good and there was no problem with dropped cal or signals disappearing. Smart dialing is also available with this version of Samsung.
Messaging options are numerous and the Gmail application is an absolute peach and the outlay of that is very delicate and pleasing but its functioning is also very good and the synchronizing of mails is very efficiently done by this device.
The Ace has an excellent organize to keep you planned and set tasks and a very efficient calendar to keep you up to schedule and date.
The Ace is an excellent phone in the mid range category and its high performance camera and the processor along with its sturdy build make it a healthy phone to use bet beware its multimedia functions are not of the high standard we come to expect of Samsung.
This is the first glasses free 3D display phone in the world. Made by LG. it has 3D photo and video recording capability. To run everything smooth, it has a dual core processor.
The phone was announced in January and was released in July 2011 and awed the world straight away. It weighs 168 grams and is 128.8 mm tall, 64 mm wide and 11.9 mm thick. On the front is the magnificent 3D LCD display of capacitive technology with a screen resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. It has LG 3D UI, accelerometer for auto rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn off, gyro sensor, and supports multi touch input method. The phone has 8GB of internal storage with 512 mb of RAM. It also has an external micro SD slot which supports upto 32 GB of memory.
The phone supports all major type of connectivity options including 3G, WI-FI, Bluetooth and micro USB version 2.0. the phone has dual 5 mega pixel camera which takes 3D pictures at a resolution of 2560 by 1920 pixels. It has auto focus and LED flash. Other than that the camera supports stereoscopic photos and videos as well as geo tagging. There is also a secondary camera. It can be used to make video calls over skype. The primary camera also shoots videos both 2D and 3D. It shoots high definition video at 1080p 30 frames per second in 2D mode and 720p 30 frames per second in 3D mode.
The phone runs Android OS 2.2 (froyo) but is upgradeable to gingerbread which is a disadvantage for those who do not have wifi or 3g network.to run android and 3D capabilities, the phone is powered by 1GHz dual core ARM cortex A9 processor which gives it enough juice to run and keep things running smoothly.
The phone has an HDMI port. It has Youtube and google talk integrated into the software nicely. It does not have a radio and supports flash 10.1. The phone is provided with a 1500 mAh Li-ion battery which provides around 100 hours of stand by time and has a talk time rating of only 4 hours.
The phone has a decent screen. The problem with glasses free 3D display is that it has limited viewing angle which makes playing 3D games difficult although movie watching is fine. The quality of picture taken are also very good and 3D pictures add more fun to the phone. The call quality is ok and not very good. Speaker do their job well and do not disappoint. The only major thing which is disappointing is the battery life which needs to be improved by a large margin.
All in all it is a good phone with a unique feature which makes it stand out from the crowd.
Has dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, better battery, glasses free 3D display, and 3D camera which can capture videos and photos. Low internal memory, call quality is normal rather than good; 3D is displayed only at very few angles and depth. its not the 3D capabilities of the phone which makes it stand out, it’s the better battery life and user friendliness of this phone which makes it an instant hit.
Being a successor to Evo 4G the phone had to live up to it’s expectations, and yes it did. Having a dual core processor (which is also in HTC Sensation), the phone had to be unique. Thus came the 3D camera and glasses free display which made the phone one of the must grab phones of this year.
The phone shares similarity with its ancestor the Evo 4G. it stands around 5 inches tall, and weighs almost 6 ounces. It is easier to hold it in your hand and feels narrower than the Evo 4G. The back cover is comprises of a textured surface thus giving the phone a high quality finish and a luxurious feel when held in the hand.
The phone is equipped with a 4.3 inch qHD Super LCD glasses-free 3D display which is the first of its kind from the HTC’s arena of phones. The colors on the screen are sharp and vivid and make picture or video viewing a pleasure. The 3D technology which has been used in the phone is what makes it unique. It is the same technology as used by Nintendo 3DS and Lg Optimus 3D and gives a very fun experience while watching movies or playing 3D games. The only downside is that the for 3D purpose the phone has very limited viewing angles thus makes 3D gaming a bit of a pain for both the eyes and head due to continuous changing of images from 3D to 2D and then back to 3D.
Other than the beautiful glasses free 3D display, the phone comes with a dual core 1.2 GHz processor which not makes it only fast but more than doubles the speed a normal phone has nowadays. To make the phone even more stand out from the crowd, it is equipped with a 3D camera which takes pictures taking experience to next level. The phone has all the basic connection options along with GPS capabilities. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread which is the latest version. It has 1GB of memory available for users out of the total 4GB of internal memory. It supports up to 32 GB of external memory.
The phone does not lag when switching from one application to another and senses a click on screen almost straight away. The camera, being one of the first of it’s kind did pretty good job while taking pictures. The only area where the phone lacked or needed improvement was the call quality . it is normal and not very good. Other than this the phone is provided with 1730mAh battery which gives around 6hrs of talk time.
